This weekend, CONTRA attended Mini’s reveal of the their latest concept “the Beachcomber” at the Toronto International Car Show.  For it’s Canadian appearance, Mini teamed up with luxury event managers Candice & Alison for a 50’s inspired beach party.  While the show itself was noticeably smaller then previous years, Mini’s presentation was one of the more unique reveals that had people curious. They enlisted the services of fashion designer Farley Chatto, agency Elite models, hair & make up artist Ivy Lam, and product designer Jasin Dollin to bring together a sexy, urban tailgate. Pinup girls and all. Oh, and the car is pretty fresh too. Photos & video by Christian C.

Juice store, Causeway Bay – Hong Kong – home of street wear brand CLOT.  This “upstairs store” is located on the second floor of a residential building, so just like visiting someone’s home, you gotta sign in with your ID card. Their latest collection “From Dusk Till Dawn” features a limited edition of CLOT logo tees designed by KAWS and 4 motorcycle jackets mashing up recycled Levi’s jeans and leather – a collaboration with Levi’s and Dr.Romanelli. We also got there in time for their Secret Box Store – a pop up store open from Jan 27 to Feb 4 featuring CLOT archive items. More exclusive pictures inside Juice below.

FEMME3

Mike Katz, a Time’s columnist, could not have described teens better. “I mean, it’s like, today’s teens, they just don’t get it! Sure, for them, life is totally phine–er, phat. They are coming of age in an age that celebrates the coming of age. For every standard-issue adolescent yearning, there is a show that explores it on the WB. For each of life’s cliched ironies encountered for the first time, there is a chat room to lament it on TeenGripe.com For every pimply punk buying a pop CD, another kid with a good complexion has just released a debut album. Being a teenager these days is as effortless as being a Renaissance Man during the Renaissance… They just… I dunno. Forget it. Whatever.” Okay, so maybe they don’t say “phat” anymore (then again, when did they ever?), watch the WB (it’s more like the CW or MTV, now), or fuck around in chat rooms (unless, of course, you classify Facebook as that)- but it seems that some things never change.

WATG9

Forget the little old lady in the rocking chair, it seems knitting isn’t just for grandma anymore. Thanks to Wool and the Gang, the product of Lisa Sabrier and Carolyn Main, “guys and girls from 7 to 77 years old” have the opportunity to become “all tied together by a piece of yard”- while still maintaining their dignity, nonetheless. Produced deep in the heart of Peru’s Andean Highland, their top quality wool makes them a force to be reckoned with-distinguishing them from Fabricland to fashionable. Their “Crazy Sexy Wool” (they said it, not me) sounds almost too good to be true: soft, with thermal properties and beautiful natural shades. Mmm.. and PETA will be pleased to know the sheep are carefully looked after by their shepherds… how sweet! And though knitting may seem like a daunting task and not for the faint of heart, the Gang offers kits, which include all your knitting essentials: yarn, needles, patterns and accessories. But for those who feel their hand-eye co-ordination is a bit too subpar (or maybe those who are just too embarrassed to embrace their inner senior citizen), they also sell ready-made knitwear. So, maybe we’re not all talented enough to whip up a knitted a masterpiece, but, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a cosy sweater or scarf during the frigid winter months? Bottom line: Get knitting. All the cool kids are doing it.
