Love in Action 2010, this year held on the most festive of all days – St-Patrick’s Day, partnered up with Gap Adventures to curate a national contest campaign. The contest calls leaders to create a unique fundraising project and submit a 2 minute video of what they did to put their Love In Action to raise money to support Planeterra and its Tibet Eye Restoration Clinic. See submissions here.
The event was held at The Revival in Little Italy hosted by CP24’s Melissa Grelo and Matte Babel and featured star-studded performances by Slakah, Dylan Murray, and Trish, followed by a long night of dancing. Let’s not forget that all this fun still comes down to a good cause. If you didn’t make it out this year, make sure you stay tuned for next year!

DD172 GRAND OPENING from Creative Control on Vimeo.
Last Friday Damon Dash officially opened his DD172 Gallery in Tribeca. This new art space is the self professed art lovers latest venture outside of the world of hiphop. The video was shot and edited by Creative Control, another project he’s involved with.
Industry insiders gathered on V-Day to fete the opening of Opening Ceremony at The Ace Hotel in NYC. There couldn’t be a better combo- Alex Calderwood’s Ace Hotel meeting Humberto Leon/Carol Lim’s OC is sure to cause a flock of faithful followers. The OC store will have all sorts of “anti-souvenirs”- everythign from “British Walker potato chips and Haribo gummy candies to Japanese toothpaste and Criterion DVDs, and of course a selection of threads.” As for the party? WWD described it, saying, “where the Opening Ceremony crew goes, the cool squad tends to follow, so a stream of black leather, plaid and fur-covered kids headed to the not terribly fashionable Flatiron area.” The cool kids in attendance included everyone like Alexander Wang (OC’s in-house favourite [and mine]), Chloe Sevigny, Terry Richardson, Olivier Zahm and a whole lot more. Dinner followed at The Breslin- now just picture Kirsten Dunst chowing down on “fried chicken, suckling pig, mashed potatoes and warm biscuits.” Best visual. And, no party would be complete without the music. The crowd headed downstairs to the hotel’s basement club for a live performance by The Dirty Projectors and DJ Solange Knowles (yeah, who knew?). Dunst danced up a storm right outside the VIP area, while Terence Koh, in a self-described “Where the Wild Things Are” monster suit, moved closer to the stage. This weekend, CONTRA attended Mini’s reveal of the their latest concept “the Beachcomber” at the Toronto International Car Show. For it’s Canadian appearance, Mini teamed up with luxury event managers Candice & Alison for a 50’s inspired beach party. While the show itself was noticeably smaller then previous years, Mini’s presentation was one of the more unique reveals that had people curious. They enlisted the services of fashion designer Farley Chatto, agency Elite models, hair & make up artist Ivy Lam, and product designer Jasin Dollin to bring together a sexy, urban tailgate. Pinup girls and all. Oh, and the car is pretty fresh too. Photos & video by Christian C.

The set up: On new years, someone decided to steal the video camera of our boys over at Videophilia, at a NYE masquerade party.
The fundrager: Since they’ve hooked so many people up with free video work and have thrown some great parties, we thought we’d lend a hand in supporting their upcoming fundraiser to replace the missing gear. All proceeds from the show will go towards replacing the stolen equipment. The support so far has been overwhelming, so the event has been divide into two separate nights. The first night, this Friday January 8th, will feature electro, house, mash up etc. The second night, to be held at a later date, will feature dub,dub step and grime. After the jump you find links to all the DJ’s pages which will be playing this Friday.
